PostDoc / PhD intern / research assistant

The Visual+Interactive Data group at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, is searching for an engaged and creative postdoc / PhD intern / visualization developer to research interactive cheat sheets for data visualization in the context of online teaching for data visualization and general activities for visaulization literacy.

This project is part of a larger project that involves the design of an online course in data visualization for professionals in industry, public, and self-employment sector.

This position is asking to:

• create cheat sheets for visualizations
• create interactive web versions for people to explore and learn basic and advanced visualizations.
• user-centered research and evaluation
• research in teaching data visualization

Times and conditions are flexible and the position can start as soon as possible and runs until the end of July with further funding currently requested.

• This position can considered a paid PhD internship or a postdoc or a development job (£33,797 p.a).
• This person should be able to work from home but requires both, a UK bank account and the right to work in the UK.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of a broard range of data visualization techniques (parallel coordinates plots, heatmaps, adjacency matrices, choropleth maps, boxplots, ..)
• Java script for graphics, interaction, and potentially storytelling, e.g., D3.js
• Human centered research methods.
• visualization design (and track record for postdoc)
